URBAN LUMBER CO. specializes in creating large natural edge slabs and fine handcrafted furnishings from sustainably salvaged city trees. Our furniture showcases monumental scale, live edges, and unique detailed grains. With each piece we build, we emphasize and take pride in sharing the inherent natural beauty of our Pacific Northwest lumber.

WE SALVAGE.

Working in cooperation with city municipalities, neighborhoods, and homeowners of the Eugene metropolitan area, we strive to meet our goal of keeping valuable natural resources out of landfills. This premium salvaged lumber is unparalleled for our heirloom-quality, custom furniture.

WE MILL.

All the trees are taken to our shop in the historical Booth Kelly Mill in Springfield, Oregon where we specialize in creating one of a kind large natural edge slabs. With one of the largest custom-built saws in the nation, we have the ability to cut slabs up to 8 feet wide, giving us the capacity to make the best cuts, while enhancing the personal character of each individual log and giving our custom furniture incredible grain details.

WE KILN.

After our logs are milled, they air dry for several years before we take them to our in-house kiln where each slab is dried according to its size and species. The benefit of kiln drying is the controlled environment and ability to closely manage what each species’ needs, resulting in higher quality furniture. The process also makes the natural lumber less likely to have distortion or staining, while eliminating stresses like warping and bowing.

Our final step is our personal dedication to an unparalleled standard of craftsmanship. The Urban Lumber team are highly experienced furniture artists and in-house fabricators. Our design team works closely with our craftsmen on each project ensuring your furniture is the best fit for your needs and style.

We are built upon the mission of promoting environmental responsibility and greater awareness of our urban forests through our hardwood furnishings. We take pride in environmental sustainability and do our part on all levels of production, from salvaging city street trees, to selecting only the greenest materials for our custom furniture.

SETH SAN FILIPPO

Seth came from humble roots in the custom longboard skateboard world, but a passion for wood grew into something much greater.

In 2006 Seth opened Urban Lumber Company, with his personal mission of stewardship of urban forests. This passion has earned him renown locally and nationally, and his craftsmanship and unique take on the ‘modern rustic’ style has brought him patronage up and down the West Coast as well as internationally. Behind his tireless drive to uphold his mission, and promote environmental responsibility, Urban Lumber has continued to evolve and thrive. At the core of it all is the fundamental love of beautiful woods, and the appreciation of the trees they come from and the story they tell.

Hailing from “America’s High Five” in Salt Ste. Marie, Michigan, Andy explored several parts of the Pacific Northwest before settling in Eugene. As a small woodworking business owner, he worked with clients on a vase array of furniture and decor designs from dining and coffee tables to sculptures and laser etched artwork. Andy started at Urban Lumber Co in December of 2021, quickly becoming our wood shop lead due to his extreme attention to detail and desire for the utmost tedious/complicated projects. Since his start, he has led our team through our biggest designs this year, taking his technical skills and applying them on a massive scale. This is one smart cookie, as they say, but when Andy wants to wind down, you can often find him with his partner - exploring, biking, shooting hoops (swish!) or simply paling around with his two cats.

Originally from Scranton, PA, Nick joined the Urban Lumber Co family in 2017 as our Creative Director just months after arriving to the west coast with art supplies and his Harley Davidson (aka “Beatrice”). Starting his career in Philadelphia, he worked on film crews for The Food Network, A&E, PBS, and Comcast. After several years of Art Direction, Nick opened Von Bruton Printshop, a media services business specializing in videography, graphic design, web design, illustrations, and screen printing. He has since consolidated those skills into Urban Lumber as the keeper of our brand on all platforms of physical and digital content. Outside of ULC, Nick is a full time motorcycle rider, constantly exploring, fishing and camping through the PNW. You may find him printmaking, painting, writing and performing music as Mime Tribes, as well as searching for the best Eggs Benedict that the city has to offer…

OLIVIA CROWLEY

Originally from White Lake, MI, Olivia has been our Project Manager since 2018. As a furniture geek and chair design enthusiast, she was a natural fit with Urban Lumber Company. While creating and designing all of the line drawings for our team of artisans, her attention to detail defines her specialty and truly raises the bar for other furniture designers. Olivia finds inspiration through traveling the country in her van, performing improv comedy, rock climbing, baking, and her pet bunny Moose. She can undoubtedly quote the movie Kung Pow - Enter the Fist word for word and her biggest pet peeve is a half open cabinet, so the hurt she could bring if you’re caught doing so may be unprecedented… (insert karate chop noises)

FABIAN ORNELAS

Originally from Leon, Guanajuato, in Mexico, Fabian now resides in Springfield, OR with his wife and two daughters. Joining the Urban Lumber crew as our Sawyer in 2018, Fabian was no novice to heavy machinery. He worked many jobs cutting raw materials like leather, high quality meats, metal, and wood for fabrication projects in Mexico and Santa Cruz, CA. When he is not milling some of the largest slabs in the country, he enjoys being outdoors with his family, playing music, and mastering his skills in creating authentic Mexican cuisine.

Paul San Filippo

Originally from Cary, IL, right outside of Chicago, Paul started woodworking for Urban Lumber Co in 2014 after helping Seth move furniture around the shop. The interest in woodworking grew and quickly turned into a full time job. As our Master Inlay Specialist, his favorite projects to work on are charismatic dining room tables, bedroom sets, or projects that stay local. Outside of woodworking, Paul now owns San Filippo Barbecue focusing on Texas-style smoked Briskets, ribs, sausages with southern comfort sides. If you don’t see him stoking his smoker, you can find him relaxing down by the river with his girlfriend, hiking, camping, running, or cycling.
